ufs 101 - 2nd vocabulary entry



1.                    Poverty
Ø  Meaning:
ü  Being poor, that is having little or no money.
Ø  Example:
ü  He lives in poverty.

2.                     Destitution
Ø  Meaning:
ü  A state without friend or money or prospects.
Ø  Example:
ü  Mother Teresa detractors have accused her of overemphasizing calculates destitution and of coercing conversion from the defenceless.

3.                    Inability
Ø  Meaning:
ü  Lacking the power to perform or lack of ability to do something.
Ø  Example:
ü  He was grieving for mankind for man, maybe for the need to dream.

4.                    Incapable
Ø  Meaning:
ü  Lacking capacity or ability and not being susceptible to or admitting of something.
Ø  Example:
ü  The 2005 film was incapable of drawing an audience large to compete with its steep production budget.

5.                    Starvation
Ø  Meaning:
ü  A state of extreme hunger resulting from lack of essential nutrients  over a prolonged period.
Ø  Example:
ü  There is nothing ennobling about death by starvation.


6.                    Deprivation
Ø  Meaning:
ü  A state of extreme poverty and the disadvantage that results from losing something.
Ø  Example:
ü  Three studies examine Americans sleep deprivation, pointing to call phone and work as chief culprits, and the consequences of sleeplessness for kids.




7.                    Dearth
Ø  Meaning:
ü  An acute insufficiency and an insufficient quantity or number.
Ø  Example:
ü  With diet food flooding the stores is dearth of genuine in the market.

8.                    Thwart
Ø  Meaning:
ü  A crosspiece spreading the gunnels of a boat, used as a seat in a rowboat.
Ø  Example:
ü  A row of tress, planted years ago by an industrious pioneer, now rose to the wart these air pioneers.


9.                    Famine
Ø  Meaning:
ü  An acute insufficiency and a severe shortage of food resulting in violent hunger and saturation and death.
Ø  Example:
ü  In the 1990s, a severe famine is thought to have left up to a million North Koreans dead.

10.                 Drought
Ø  Meaning:
ü  A shortage of rainfall and a prolonger shortage.
Ø  Example:
ü  A farmer walks across his field in the drought. Stricken oregano district in northeast India.
